I want to treat one hypothesized generalization in particular: Wackernagel's "Law" (1892) [Wackernagel, J., 1892, Ueber ein Gesetz der indogermanischen Wortstellung, Indogermanische Forschungen 1.333-436] as expressed in Kaisse's proposal that "All languages with S' clitics place those clitics in second position, after the first stressed constituent (or word) of the clause, regardless of the category of that constituent (or word).
