For the analysis of the data I will assume the theory of semantic decomposition of verbs put forward by Jackendoff [Jackendoff, Ray, 1983, "Semantics and Cognition", Cambridge MA, MIT Press, 1990, "Semantic Structures", Cambridge MA, MIT Press, 1991, "Parts and Boundaries", Cognition, 41, pp. 9-45]. In this theory, verbal meanings are represented by hierarchically organized structures containing semantic functions like GO, CAUSE, TO, and arguments on which these functions operate, such as Things, Paths, Places, or Properties.
