An SoA [state of affairs] is something that can be said to occur, take place, or obtain in some world; it can be located in time and space; it can be said to take a certain time(have a certain duration); and it can be seen, heard, or otherwise perceived.
- Dik (1989), Pag. 47

The term “state of affairs” is here used in the wide sense of “conception of something which can be the case in some world”. This definition implies that an SoA is a conceptual entity, not something that can be located in extramental reality, or be said to exist in the real world.
