FG [Functional Grammar] recognizes functional relations at three different levels: (i) “Semantic functions“ : Agent, Goal, Recipient. etc. (ii) “Syntactic functions“ : Subject and Object (iii) “Pragmatic functions“ : Theme, Topic, Focus, etc. […]. “Pragmatic functions“ specify the “informational” status of a constituent within the wider communicative setting in which it occurs (that is, in relation to the pragmatic information of S [Speaker] and A [Addressee] at the moment of the use).
