The accent may be [...] "fixed", with reference to the beginning or end of the word or to some other feature. Examples of well-known languages with a fixed accent are: Latin, where the place of the accent is generally determined by the length of the penultimate syllable; Polish, where the accent (generally) occurs on the next to the last syllable; Turkish, where it (generally) occurrs on the last syllable; and Czech, where it falls on the initial syllable of the word.
