Both grammars and dictionaries reflect important aspects of language: dictionaries provide the elementary building blocks, and the grammars specify how these blocks are combined to make well-formed utterances. The theory of the lexicon combines these two aspects: on the one hand, it describes generalisations about the basic elements, on the other hand, it studies the ways in which these elements interact and form larger word structures. The latter part of lexical theory has been called "word grammar" or "word syntax", which seems to be a good name for the enterprise.
