Phonemic analysis is carried on under varying conditions. The most favorable ones are when the analyst can work trough direct face-to-face contact with a speaker of the language, or ‘informant’ especially if the analyst and the informant both control some common language, in addition to the informant’s native language that the analyst wants to study.
