When the contents of the buffer are addressed in order to construct the lower representation, errors result because of the co-occurrence of more than one unit in the buffer. The idea that slips result from such a co-occurrence, or "computational simultaneity" [Garret , M. F., 1975, The analysis of sentence production, in Bower, G. H., ed., “The psychology of learning and motivation”, Academic Press, New York, pp. 133-177], of representational units has been either an implicit or explicit assumption of all recently proposed accounts of production, and the theory presented here continues in that tradition.
