Among the most important components to hunt out in any vocabulary are those which define “dead metaphors”: given a designatum [c1 • c2 <• c3 • c4>] in which < c3 • c4> is a non-criterial component, a dead metaphor might be defined as a sign having as its designatum (c3 • c4). This describes, for example, the relation of 'head' " top part of body above the neck" to 'head' "most important part of..." in 'head of the table', 'head of government', etc.
