Word-final stops, exept the last [members of the stop-series], are replaced with the [corresponding] thirds [of the series, i.e. voiced aspirate stops], before voiced consonants and vowels. Further, at the end of a word, [before a pause, as in the Padapāṭha, or at the end of a metrical foot in the Saṁhitāpāṭha, the non-nasal stops] are replaced with [the corresponding] voiceless [unaspirated stops]. Also, before voiceless [consonants, the word-final non-nasal stops become voiceless]. (pp. 263-266)

In the case of voiceless [consonants], the [type of] phonation [or emission] is “śvasa” ʻ[voiceless, no-resonant] breathʼ. (p. 113)
