[...] whilst therefore the language of the Brahmans more frequently enables us to conjecture the primitive form of the Greek and Latin languages than what we discover in the oldest authors and monuments, the latter on their side also may not unfrequently elucidate the Sanskrit grammar. That is to say, whilst the Sanskrit has preserved many grammatical forms, which can be supposed to have formerly existed in Greek, Latin, Gothic, &c. there are instances where the reverse is the case, where grammatical forms, lost in the Sanskrit, have been preserved in Greek or Latin.
