Exposition. Here the secondary clause restates the thesis of the primary clause in different words, to present it from another point of view, or perhaps just to reinforce the message; for example That clock doesn’t go; it’s not working. She wasn’t a show dog: I didn’t buy her as a show dog. Each argument was fatal to the other: both could not be true. The relationship may be made explicit by conjunctive expressions such as 'or' ('rather'), 'in other words' or 'that is to say'; or, in writing, 'e.g.'.
