It is possible that the best solution to this dichotomy of form vs. distribution lies somewhere between the poles which I set up [...] I have, however, introduced one important restriction to the autonomy of distribution: namely, that before complementary distribution in different tactical environments is valid for uniting different forms into the same morpheme, it must be demonstrated that at least one homophonous set of forms belonging to the same distribution-class occurs in all such positions.
