Each language has a different system for the combining of morphemes, and within each system there are rigid restrictions. In the syntax there may be such alternative orders as 'John ran away', 'Away ran John', and 'Away John ran', but in the morphology of most languages the order is fixed, and in some languages it is very complicated.
- Nida (1949), Pag. 78
