Citazioni | Open juncture is generally equivalent to the 'break' occurring between words. The difference between 'night-rate' and 'nitrate' is that 'night-' and '-rate' have open junctural phonemes. Such a juncture phoneme does not belong to the form 'nit-' in 'nitrate'. Open junctures mark certain phonologically and morphologically pertinent points. Forms bounded by open junctures may exhibit certain stress characteristics. For example, each such unit in English has at least one primary or secondary stress. |
