Allomorphic alternation which occurs in morphological constructions is essentially a part of the morphology of a language, in the same way that similar changes occurromg in syntactic constructions are actually a part of the syntax. if we find that the types and occurrences of such changes are distinct, we may set up two sections, (1) morphophonemics and (2) syntactophonemics, each of which would treat the allomorphic alternations occuring within its province.
