In both Fijian and English, and probably generally, some canonical forms can be expressed as the "sum" of certain smaller ones: Fijian ≠ CVCVCV(C) as ≠ CVCV(C) plus V; the English type of "author" as the type of "act" plus the type of "or" (or "-ing"). Moreover, in these cases the "sums" occur as sequences of several morphs ("actor") as well as in single morphs ("author"). Those canonical forms which cannot be so expressed may conveniently be called "minimum". - Hockett (2004a), a pag.83-84
