In a comparison of the frequently distinct systems presented by the written form and the spoken form of one and the same language, one may, in order to make the contrast the more striking, combine in one pattern the archaisms of the spelling and those of the literary style on the one hand, the innovations of the spoken form and those of colloquial speech on the other hand.
