Equations will be used to indicate substitutability. 'BC = A' will mean that the sequence consisting of a morpheme of class 'B' followed by a morpheme of class 'C' can be substituted for a single morpheme of class 'A'. In cases where unclarity may arise, we shall write 'B + C' for the sequence 'BC'.
